Bark and Sparkle - Refund and Returns Policy

At Bark and Sparkle, we want you and your pets to be completely satisfied with your purchase. This policy outlines your rights and our procedures for returns and refunds in accordance with South African consumer protection laws.


Your Legal Rights

Under the Electronic Communications and Transactions (ECT) Act and the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), you have the following rights:

  • 7-day cooling-off period for all online purchases (we offer 14 days – see below)
  • 6-month warranty against defects in all products
  • The right to choose your remedy (refund, repair, or replacement) for defective goods

Change of Mind Returns (14-Day Policy)

We offer a 14-day return period from the date you receive your item if you simply change your mind.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a change of mind return, your item must meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • Returned within 14 days of delivery
  • Proof of purchase (receipt or order confirmation)
  • Unopened and unused in original condition
  • Original packaging intact with all tags and labels attached
  • No damage, alterations, or wear to the item
  • Hygiene seal intact (where applicable)

Items We Cannot Accept for Change of Mind Returns

For health, safety, and hygiene reasons, the following items cannot be returned unless defective:

  • Opened or used pet food, treats, or supplements
  • Prescription medications or veterinary products
  • Perishable goods
  • Personalized or custom-made items
  • Hygiene products once opened (e.g., grooming tools, bedding with removed packaging)
  • Sale or clearance items marked as “final sale”
  • Gift cards or vouchers

How to Initiate a Return

  • Customer pays return shipping for change of mind returns
  • Ship items securely to prevent damage in transit
  • We recommend using a tracked shipping service
  • Bark and Sparkle is not responsible for items lost or damaged during return shipping

Defective, Damaged, or Incorrect Items (6-Month Warranty)

If you receive an item that is defective, damaged, or incorrect, you are protected under the Consumer Protection Act for up to 6 months from the date of purchase.

What Qualifies as Defective

  • Manufacturing defects
  • Items that do not work as described
  • Products damaged during shipping
  • Incorrect items sent in error

How to Report a Defective Item

  1. Inspect your order immediately upon delivery

Your Rights for Defective Items

Under the Consumer Protection Act, you choose the remedy:

  • Replacement with an identical item
  • Repair of the defective item (where applicable)

Bark and Sparkle covers return shipping costs for defective, damaged, or incorrect items.

Refund Process

Processing Time

  • Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will notify you within 2 business days of receipt
  • If your return is approved, your refund will be processed to your original payment method
  • Refunds are issued within 10 business days of approval

Bank Processing Time

Please note that after we issue your refund, your bank or credit card company may take additional time (typically 3-5 business days) to process and post the refund to your account.

If You Haven’t Received Your Refund

If more than 15 business days have passed since we approved your return:

  1. Check your bank account or credit card statement
  2. Contact your bank or credit card company

Refund Method

Refunds are issued to the original payment method only. We do not offer:

  • Store credit (unless you specifically request it)
  • Cash refunds for card purchases
  • Refunds to different payment methods

Exchanges

We do not offer direct exchanges. If you’d like a different item:

  1. Return your original item following the returns process above
  2. Once your return is approved and processed
  3. Place a new order for the item you want

This ensures you receive your preferred item as quickly as possible.


International Orders

If you are ordering from outside South Africa:

  • Shipping times may be longer than expected
  • You are responsible for return shipping costs and any customs or import duties
  • Contact us before returning international orders for specific instructions
  • The 14-day return period begins when you receive the item, not when it ships

Sale and Clearance Items

Items marked as “final sale” or purchased during clearance promotions may not be eligible for change of mind returns. However, they are still covered under the 6-month defective goods warranty as required by South African law.
